Ahh, Crescent City, a beautiful and majestic sight to see. Once a bustling harbor town, the area is now notorious for being the last city in CA before entering the lush greenness of Oregon.
It's truly a unique city of sorts, one filled with vacant hotels, drifters, ocean docks, and (apparently) tsunamis. But located in the center and right off Route 101 is a terrifying collection of art sculptures guaranteed to pump up the nightmare fuel. Behold this scary statue art garden, which I believe is nameless and will probably haunt you for years to come.
The perfect gift for that special someone.
This morbid display of pain and suffering feels like an artier version of your local Halloween store, sans any of that cheap shit. . They have goblins (in fountain form), skeletons, decapitated heads, grim reapers, and many other variations of things that go bump in the night. And the faces—just look at those highly detailed portraits of anguish; it's like Halloween every day here.
And these monsters aren't loving life either; every face seems to be screaming in torment, surprise to be there, or just dead. The sculptures all look and feel like time froze right before an atom bomb was about to go off and destroy the universe.
Charming stuff for the whole family to enjoy.
But creep factor aside, these aren't your bottom-of-the-barrel plastic Halloween decorations; everything is carved to perfection from stone or wood and looks pretty impressive. The statues are rock-solid, highly detailed (for better or for worse), and probably cost a pretty penny to purchase and display in your living room in a childish attempt to scare the living daylights out of your dinner guests.
Kudos to the very talented artist who made these, a true crescent city legend, but I wouldn't want to hang out here after hours. This is a dark collection of art that truly walks the line between genius and serial killer.
However, if you ever find yourself up in Crescent city— which I assure you, you won't ever be— this is probably the greatest thing the town has to offer. Just don't expect to sleep for a couple of nights.
